Catalyst products significantly improved emission reduction benefits in 2025

Industrial customers using Clariant catalysts have achieved a cumulative reduction of 45 million tons of carbon dioxide equivalent in greenhouse gas emissions throughout the year

Moutonz, Switzerland/Shanghai, China, June 8, 2026- Clariant, a specialty chemical company focused on sustainable development, announced today that its catalyst products will achieve significantly improved emission reduction benefits year-on-year in 2025, with a cumulative reduction of 45 million tons of carbon dioxide equivalent in greenhouse gas emissions for the year, an increase of 5 million tons from 2024. This emission reduction achievement is attributed to multiple innovative catalytic technologies, including reforming catalysts for direct reduction of iron (DRI) production, nitrous oxide emission reduction catalysts for nitric acid plants, and synthesis gas catalysts. This catalyst can be used in conjunction with renewable electricity electrolysis hydrogen production routes, or to prepare green methanol based on biomass raw materials. In addition, Clariant refinery exhaust purification catalysts are also contributing to carbon reduction, helping refineries and integrated refining and chemical parks reduce their environmental footprint. Taking the direct reduction ironmaking process as an example, its carbon emission intensity is only half of that of traditional steelmaking processes.

Jens Cuntze, President of the Catalyst Business Unit at Clariant, stated, "Creating a cleaner and more sustainable future has always been our core development direction. We provide support for industries with high emission reduction difficulties through continuous innovation. The company's sustainable development layout covers the entire industry chain, focusing on reducing its own direct and indirect carbon emissions, as well as providing professional solutions to help customers reduce emissions.

Green methanol is one of the many carbon neutral technologies supported by Clariant's layout. Adhering to the development concept of "innovative chemistry achieves harmony between man and nature", the company continues to optimize its product portfolio and operation mode, focusing on solving global development problems and fully promoting energy transformation. Clariant continues to invest in catalyst solution research and development, helping the chemical and fuel industries steadily advance decarbonization processes
