Reactor Types
Batch Reactor: A high-pressure, stirred reactor vessel used for special chemical batches.
Continuous Flow Reactor / Fixed Bed Reactor: A tube-shaped reactor for large-scale, continuous production.
For Batch Reactor body is usually made of corrosion-resistant materials such as stainless steel, Hastelloy, Nickel Alloy, Titanium etc. The key components include:
● Sealing device like Magnetic coupling sealing which is commonly used to achieve "static sealing" without leakage points, suitable for flammable and explosive gases such as hydrogen.
● Stirring system: In order to mix hydrogen gas, liquid raw materials, and solid catalysts, a hollow self-suction stirring agitator is often equipped to suck the hydrogen gas from the top of the kettle into the bottom liquid to form a circulation.
The working principle is that under high pressure and the action of catalysts such as palladium carbon and Raney nickel, hydrogen gas undergoes addition reactions with unsaturated compounds.
● Heating method: electric heating, or heat transfer oil jacket heating, such as limpet coil jacket.
Application description:
● Food Industry: Solidifying edible oils by converting unsaturated fats into saturated fats.
● Pharmaceuticals: Essential in the synthesis of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs).
● Fuel Production: Upgrading crude oil into cleaner fuels (hydrotreating) and converting biomass into diesel.
● Chemical Synthesis: Reducing double/triple bonds to single bonds to create specialized chemical products.
Key points for safe operation
Due to the flammability, explosiveness, and high pressure involved in hydrogen gas, strict adherence to regulations is necessary during operation.
Replace air: Before the reaction, the air inside the reactor must be replaced with nitrogen at least 3 times, and then replaced with hydrogen to ensure no oxygen residue and prevent explosion.
Strictly prohibit excess: The liquid level of the reactants should usually not exceed 2/3 of the volume of the kettle.
Explosion proof area: It is strictly prohibited to carry mobile phones or lighters on the operation site.
It is strictly prohibited to disassemble under pressure: Before the reaction is completed and the pressure is released to atmospheric pressure, it is absolutely forbidden to open the kettle cover.
