A nylon reactor is a specialized industrial pressure vessel designed for the high-temperature, high-pressure chemical synthesis of nylon polymers, such as Nylon 6 and Nylon 6.6. Nylon reactors can stand extremely high melt viscosity and precise vacuum conditions.
Key Features Include:
● High-Temperature & High-Vacuum: Constant temperatures up to 300°C, full vacuum to remove water or residual monomers, which drives the polymerization reaction.
● Heavy-Duty Agitation: High-torque agitators for thick viscous molten nylon, helical screws to ensure uniform mixing and heat distribution.
● Precise Thermal Control: The reactor has advanced heating jackets to precisely control the temperature, which is critical for achieving the correct molecular weight.
● Corrosion-Resistant Materials: Constructed from certified high-grade stainless steel or nickel alloys to prevent metal contamination that could discolor the polymer.
Nylon Reactors Style
● Batch Reactors: Often used for producing smaller quantities or specialty nylons, like long-chain or copolymers, allowing for flexibility in formulation .
● Continuous Stirred-Tank Reactors (CSTRs): Used in high-volume production, often arranged in series to gradually build polymer chains.
● Tower or Finishing Reactors: Specialized vertical or horizontal units designed for the final stages of polymerization, where high vacuum strips out last traces of volatiles to boost molecular weight.
● Nylon is widely used in textile-grade fibers to durable engineering plastics for automotive parts.
● Nylon 66 Resin Autoclave Reactor equips with a water tank for Post-Processing Requires extensive extraction (washing) after the reactor, to remove unreacted monomer (caprolactam) from the polymer. Requires a solid-state post-condensation (SSP) step after the reactor to increase viscosity for engineering plastic applications.
