A Lubrication Oil Reactor, often part of a lube plant or hydroprocessing unit, is a specialized pressure vessel used in petrochemical refining to produce high-quality base oils through chemical reactions like hydro-isomerization and hydrofinishing. These reactors turn raw materials like converted oil UCO or slack wax into high-quality API Group II or III base oils.
Here is a breakdown of the two main types
● Hydrotreating / Hydrogenation Reactor: Used for high-quality base oils or recycling waste oil. It mixes oil with hydrogen and catalysts to remove impurities, like sulfur, nitrogen, and saturate hydrocarbons, improving stability and color.
● Saponification Reactor for Grease-making: Specifically for grease production, where it facilitates the chemical reaction between oils / fats and alkali to create a thickener structure.
Applications
These reactors are essential for producing various automotive and industrial lubricants, regenerating used oils to meet environmental standards, and manufacturing specialty greases.
