Product Description
A Methanation Reactor / Methanol Reactor is a specialized chemical vessel that converts carbon oxides and hydrogen into methane and water using nickel-based catalyst, at high temperatures and pressures. It is primarily used to produce synthetic natural gas (SNG) from renewable energy, purify gas streams, and store intermittent renewable energy.
Application Description
● Coal-to-Gas (SNG) Plants: Converting coal-derived syngas into pipeline-quality natural gas.
● Hydrogen Purification (CO Removal): In ammonia plants and hydrogen production units, methanation is used to remove trace CO and CO2 from hydrogen streams.
● Biogas Upgrading: Removing CO2 from biogas by converting it to methane, increasing the methane concentration.
Advantage
A Methanation Reactor is essentially a "hydrogen + carbon oxides --> methane" machine.
It's used to make natural gas from non-fossil sources like coal, biomass, waste, renewable hydrogen, etc.
